Despite it’ powerful taste and name, the midnight oil is roasted just short of a true dark to avoid unwanted bitterness or the oily residue that can gum up even the best coffee grinders.

The core of Midnight Oil is a Sumatran wet-hulled bean, renowned for its molasses-like sweetness, earthy and chocolatey umami notes, mixed over a blend of our Mexican Chiapas and Mogiana Beans. Sourced from family-owned farms in Aceh, on the island of Sumatra, this bean is supported by the KSU Gayo Mandiri cooperative. The cooperative reinvests in the community's infrastructure and healthcare.

We source our Specialty Coffee both direct from coffee producers and through talented Canadian importers. We focus on supporting small to medium sized farms and locally run cooperatives with fair coffee prices. These above market premiums allow for living wages, healthy working conditions and improvements to their infrastructure.
