Cream Of The Crop
Huehuetenango, Guatemala, is renowned for producing coffees with a unique, creamy mouthfeel, often accompanied by crisp acidity and notes of chocolate or caramel. The high elevations, steep terrain, dry winds, and temperate weather of this northern region create ideal conditions for growing Arabica coffee. This SHB, European Preparation lot from Unitrade Coffee offers milky texture, notes of caramel fudge, chocolate, and citrus—a symphony of flavours that perfectly represents Guatemalan coffee in our lineup.
DIRECT RELATIONSHIP
This coffee is the result of a direct relationship with Unitrade Coffee, whom we met during the 2024 PRF conference in Guatemala. The Rio Azul SHB lot is sourced from four hundred family-owned farms, which, on average, produce coffee on two acres of land intercropped with other crops such as corn and beans. Unitrade provides infrastructure for these small producers, taking delivery of the cherry, processing it in their centralized wet mill, drying it for export, and securing fair prices through access to international markets.

We believe in partnering with local coffee trading companies like Unitrade, whose Coffee Care Program makes a tangible difference in their community. This non-profit enhances the lives of coffee farmers by improving access to education, healthcare, and sustainable farming practices. For example, the program provides scholarships for children to attend school, organizes health clinics in rural areas, and supports initiatives to improve soil health and water conservation. Unitrade has even established a small school on co-owner Nico Hammond’s farm, providing a safe place for farmers' children to learn, grow, and play during the harvest. Beyond these initiatives, the Coffee Care also offers workshops on farm management and financial literacy, empowering farmers to improve their yields and livelihoods through income diversification.
